Astounding fanbase, sensational pop hits, and a net worth of £14 million each - the boys of One Direction are definitely the world’s biggest and most adored bunch today. Who can actually say no to these pretty faces while they enumerate the little things that make us beautiful in a song? I know I did before. But that was when they wore baggy pants and unflattering haircuts and didn’t have toned arms yet. Admittedly, once they all fully (and gloriously) hit puberty and were groomed to perfection, there was no getting off the 1D train.
While I swoon over their immense charm and put their catchy songs on repeat, I also can’t help but admire their wardrobe choices and almost wish I had the divine privilege of being their stylist. While they all wear coordinating outfits on event appearances and borrow from each other’s closets on tour, each of the boys do have defining flairs that set them apart.
If you’re terribly obsessed with Louis, Zayn, Harry, Niall & Liam just as I am, then here’s a lowdown on the lads’ personal style and how you can translate them to your own wardrobe.
1. Harry Styles
Out of all the boys, Harry probably has the most interesting fashion instincts. As proof, he did bring home the British Style Award from last year’s British Fashion Awards and have frequented the front row of Burberry’s runway shows. His signature skin-tight jeans are always present in every ensemble. Perhaps Harry is the only person who can pull the skinniest pair off, and still look handsomely sexy.
Now if you want to take some inspiration from Mr. Styles’ wardrobe, here are the items your closet should not miss:
The Metropolitan Museum of Art was cast with a dazzling ambiance of old world glamour as this year’s gala celebrates couturier extraordinaire Charles James. The opening of the exhibition entitled Charles James: Beyond Fashion was the focus of the night, but my eyes were solely trained on the red carpet as the most prominent stars paraded in full elegance and grandeur.
The ladies who attended the lavish affair didn’t fall short in imbibing the night’s theme as they put on their best vintage-inspired frocks. However, the stunner that stood out for me was none other than Blake Lively.
The blonde bombshell was the epitome of old Hollywood splendor in a ravishing blush gown from Gucci. The custom dress featured intricate rose-gold embellishments, a stunning bodice cinched at the waist and chiffon drapes falling from her shoulders and into a train. From her retro curls to her statuesque figure, Mrs. Reynolds impeccably graced the red carpet with the perfect vintage flair.
While the Gossip Girl starlet dethroned Nina Dobrev (as she was nowhere to be found this year) as my Met Ball Queen, Amy Adams was also undeniably a vision to behold.
The actress looked no less than stellar in her platinum Oscar de la Renta frock making her my instant runner-up. Amy kept the silver motif and accessorized with matching sparkly clutch and jewelry.
Nina looked beyond lovely in this tropical stunner from Naeem Khan’s Spring 2014 collection as she celebrated TVD’s’ 100th episode last Nov. 9. And I couldn’t be more thrilled because I did blog a couple of months ago that I’d love to see this on her!
My Sept. 15 entry Playing Stylist: New York Fashion Week Spring 2014:
Nina Dobrev: Naeem Khan
When I saw this Naeem Khan dress, I knew it would look ravishing on Nina Dobrev. The tropical colors would go well with Nina’s flawless olive skin, and the length would show off her gorgeous toned legs.
So happy that my red carpet wish came true! (And that my style instincts were right..)
It’s fashion week again, and it’s the perfect time to stimulate my fashion instincts and be inspired by the parade of trends gracing the runways of New York. So if I could be a stylist to this list of dazzling stars, here’s what I would pick for each of them from these vibrant spring collections.
Olivia Palermo: Cynthia Rowley and Monique Lhuillier
Olivia has mastered the art of rocking cigarette pants and print-on-print ensembles so I think these pieces would easily look perfect on her. I can picture her wearing the Cynthia Rowley outfit on the sunny streets of New York City styled with simple flats, cat-eye sunnies and a large tote bag. I think the Monique Lhuillier ensemble would be more fitting for a red carpet event or a posh dinner. The gold embellished top and jacquard pants have “lux” written all over them which is simply perfect for my favorite fashion elite.
My favorite fashion bash has rolled once again! The 2013 Met Ball opens this year’s exhibit entitled “Punk: Chaos to Couture”. The famous steps of the Metropolitan Art Museum was studded with the brightest stars of the entertainment and fashion industries donning their best punk-inspired outfits.
While there were some who opted for only minimal hints of punk in their ensembles, a daring lot went all out to showcase their interpretations of the night’s theme.
Lily Collins is clad in black Moschino jacket and dress adorned with safety pins, studs and every punk element you can think of. SJP and Katy Perry both looked like punk royalties in each of their head dresses. And Madonna is every bit of a rebel in her Givenchy plaid top accessorizing in chains and what not.
But among the throng of costume-y garbs that swept the red carpet, one lady stood out for me and shed a light of “couture” in the grungy “chaos”.
Nina Dobrev arrived in a fierce Monique Lhuillier lace pantsuit with a tulle overskirt. Unlike others who looked like they’re in for a Halloween party, the Vampire Diaries starlet took just the perfect amount of punk inspiration and translated it to this flawlessly elegant look fit for such glamorous event. Minimal accessories, a strong cat eye and an effortless side-swept ‘do completed her ensemble which easily made her my reigning Met Ball queen.
These days, I hold a wild fascination over Eddie Redmayne. From his incredible voice to his handsome freckled face, this fine Brit has me head over heels. And because there’s no way I can get enough of him, I’ve spent the last few days watching (and rewatching) every Eddie Redmayne film I can download and singing “On My Own” in the shower as if I feel all of Eponine’s pain and longing.
The amount of females swooning for Redmayne may have particularly increased a thousandfold from his lead role in “My Week with Marilyn” to his stellar portrayal of Marius in “Les Miserables”. But besides his musical chops and smoldering dramatics (see “Birdsong” guhhh), what ultimately got me hooked on this gent is his impeccable personal style.
Looking dapper and youthful in slim fitted suits complimented by exquisite styling, 31-year-old Redmayne adds a modern twist to classic menswear in each of his red carpet appearances. He has dominated almost every Best Dressed list since his “Les Mis” promotion in late 2012 up to this year’s awards season completely dethroning my previous red carpet favorite Andrew Garfield.

Here’s a selection of a few of my favorite looks by Eddie:
Blue Instinct: Even though Redmayne suffers from color blindness, he claims that his favorite color is a certain shade of blue. So when he decides on a pop of color to break his usual neutral color scheme, this cool hue is his absolute go-to.
As the most shining stars in the entertainment industry came together for this year’s prestigious Academy Awards, of course I was on the look-out on the best dresses that paraded on the red carpet. Jennifer Lawrence and Anne Hathaway, who won Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress respectively, were a dazzling tandem in baby pink gowns. J. Law, who won for her role in The Silver Linings Playbook, capped the awards season in her final Dior Haute Couture ball gown. Anne, whose much acclaimed performance as Fantine garnered her an Oscar trophy, chose a satin Prada dress that night. There’s much more to their looks on the back details of each of their outfits.
Jennifer stuns in a magnificent trail which makes her my best-dressed gal, while Anne shows off a balance of sexy and elegant in this bare-back piece. Both also opted for back necklaces to put an unusual twist on their accessories. Jennifer went for a minimalist piece from Chopard while Anne added some sparkle with a chunky Tiffany & Co. necklace.
Aside from these winning starlets, here are more of my favorite looks at the Oscars:
For the brand’s 20th Anniversary, Kate Spade New York pays homage to the Big Apple with a retro-inspired Fall ‘13 collection. Popping colors, tacky tights, fancy outerwear and witty accessories complete the 80’s vibe of Kate Spade’s cutest garments. With neon signs and yellow cabs in the background, the presentation invites us to the vibrant nightlife of New York City. With a crazy combo like this, who can resist falling into the sweet spiraling traps of Kate Spade? I, for one, am head over heels.
PS. I even feel like I’m on the set of The Carrie Diaries!
